3D Playwrights

ABOUT US

3D Playwrights, which stands for DC Disabled Dramatists, is a writers' group of theatremakers based in the DC metro area. We define disability broadly, whether we are disabled, neurodivergent, sick, mad, or self-identify in our own way.

Started in December 2023, the group was born out of a need to share new work, particularly in early stages, and receive feedback through a disabled lens before inviting in nondisabled perspectives. It has grown to include intentional networking through inviting theatre leaders to speak, going to shows and events together, and other ways of supporting each other’s careers and creativity.

We currently have 13 writers and are an unincorporated, member-led group. We aren't an organization and don't manage a budget — we're people with a shared identity and craft.

CONNECT WITH US

We welcome writers and other theatremakers to connect with us using the form below.

As we grow, we’re taking some time to think about membership and how people can join us. We have a goal of keeping the group small enough so we can read everyone's pages. We also look for at least half our members to have been produced professionally, as a balance for our early-career members. We recognize that because we do not manage a budget for access, our group may not be accessible for all — that said, we've made it work for our many different flavors of disability so far.

We welcome starting conversations with writers and would love to hear what you’re passionate about making. If you’re another kind of theatremaker (not a writer) and would like to connect or collaborate with our group, we’d love to hear from you as well.
